PARAKEETS Sidney Lucas Print Gould Color Print
This is a vintage print based on artwork by J. Gould for
    Birds of Australia
. Features a  pair of colorful Parakeets (which I have been unable to identify yet).   These are 65+ years old, having been printed by Sidney Lucas in the 1950s in his
    Birds of Love
Series.   Very vibrant colors with very slight aging.
John Gould, accompanied by his wife Elizabeth, left Britain for Australia in May 1838 for what was to be a two year exploration of the birds and animals of the region. The natural history of the continent had not been studied in any detail before Gould's arrival and the abundant and highly varied bird life was to prove an inspiration to him, and between 1840 and 1869 he published what is his undoubted masterpiece: "The Birds of Australia". In his lifetime, he created over 3,000 bird prints.
Sydney Lucas was a leading New York fine art printer, specializing in the highest quality print reproduction of original pieces of classic art. This collection of many hundreds of prints has now been released on the market after 45 years. All the original printing plates have been destroyed, making this a unique collection. Images include the famous O'Klein Comedy Dog range, prints by Utrillo, Birds by J Gould, Flowers by Prevost, and many others.
There is a little light age toning on these prints (does not show up in picture), giving them an vintage cream look. And, there are some very minor corner bumps from decades of storage. But, over all, very good condition.
