Vintage postcard showing a rare gymnasium aboard an early 20th century passenger ship. Note the details in photo.
    Excellent condition.
The Franconia was nicknamed the "bathroom ship" as she had more bathrooms and showers on board than the
    Mauretania
. She was unusual, as she did not have staterooms on the upper deck, instead she had a library,
    gymnasium
and a lounge and smoking room. The Franconia and Lanconia were two short-lived steamships that brought thousands of immigrants from Liverpool to Boston from 1912 to 1916. The Laconia was torpedoed and sunk by the German Submarine U-50 on February 25th 1917; and, the Franconia was torpedoed and sunk by German Submarine UB-47 on October  4th 1916.
